ZYX is a high-end Japanese manufacturer of Moving Coil (MC) phono cartridges founded by Hisayoshi Nakatsuka.
History: Hisayoshi Nakatsuka is a renowned engineer who developed the world's first "optical pickup" while working for Trio (Kenwood), subsequently worked for Ortofon in Denmark, creating th famous MC 20, and later developed cartridges for Namiki Precision Jewel Company.In 1986. Nakatsuka became an independent manufacturer as ZYX with support from Namiki. Philosophy: The name stands for "analog three-dimensional elements" – time (Z), amplitude (Y), and frequency (X). Their focus is on creating a perfectly continuous time-axis signal, removing distortion.
Innovations: ZYX is known for using carbon cantilevers (C-1000) and developing the "Super High-speed reproduction engine" The pick up body get cooled down to near minus 200 Celsius, to get out stress in the material..
